The Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) is currently warning against fraudulent email and SMS messages sent by internet fraudsters in the name of österreich.gv.at in order to obtain citizens' personal data.

The fraudulent messages contain the information that the recipients should complete an online application in order to receive a refund. The sender of the messages appears to be "Oesterreich.gv.at" or the wording "Austria Government Digitaler Vertrieb und Service" is used.

Some of these messages also contain fraudulent web links to supposed A-Trust websites. Please always check the destination URL and not just the displayed text. Always check the sender address of the message very carefully to make sure it is correct and never click on links in dubious-looking e-mails or text messages. If in doubt, contact the supposed sender by telephone and research their contact details independently of the message received.
